California Senator Pushing For Stricter Asbestos Regulations

Senator Barbara Boxer is pushing the EPA to make asbestos one of the first 10 chemicals to be inspected and regulated as part of the Toxic Substances Control Act. The EPA is set to release a list the complete list at the end of the year.

Asbestos, a material used in many older buildings and residences has been linked with cancer and other severe health problems.

Asbestos is no longer produced in the U.S but according to the U.S Geological Service, the United States goes through approximately 400 tons of the product yearly. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the 1989 rule banning the chemical.
